| Introduction |
Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private
international university, is committed to the provision of effective
health sciences education, research and health services relevant to
Pakistan and the developing world. The Medical College comprises of
Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, the clinical
disciplines, Department of Community Health Sciences. State-of-the-art
research facilities, including a purpose-built research building, are
available on campus.
The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences comprises the
disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. The
major goals of the department are to:
The Department strives to achieve excellence in both teaching and
research. The development and expansion of thematic research programmes
in both basic and applied research will take AKU to the next level on
the international scene while benefitting specific health care needs of
Pakistan.

| Responsibilities | Reporting to the Dean of the Medical College, the Chair will provide dynamic leadership to the department and will have overall responsibility for the conduct of its academic and research mandate, consistent with mission and policies of AKU. S/he will foster a research culture in the department, teach, supervise and be an active participant in the graduate student mentoring/advising process, as well as focus on attraction, retention and succession planning of faculty and on procuring extramural funding. |
| Requirements |
Candidates must have a doctorate in a biological science discipline
preferably with a medical degree with substantial experience in a
university setting and a proven track record of internationally
recognized research, teaching at graduate/ post graduate level,
supervising graduate students, conducting translational research and
procuring extramural funding. S/he should have experience of academic
administration and demonstrable commitment to scholarly activity with
an understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the local
environment.
The appointment will be initially for three years, renewable for a further two years subject to performance review.
