| Introduction |
Aga Khan University (AKU), a private, self-governing international
university chartered in Pakistan in 1983, is a role model for academic,
research and service programmes in health and higher education in the
developing world. The University currently has teaching sites in
Pakistan, East Africa, the United Kingdom and Afghanistan, and is a
major component of Aga Khan Development Network. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospitals (AKUH) in Karachi and Nairobi have well-equipped investigative services and provide state-of-the-art clinical facilities. AKUH, Karachi is the first hospital in Pakistan to have been awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for practicing the highest internationally-recognized healthcare standards. The Department of Radiology offers services that cater to the needs of inpatients, outpatients and outside referrals by providing the best possible and modern diagnostic facilities at the main campus and at off-campus facilities of four secondary hospitals. The Department at main campus also offers 24/7 Nuclear Medicine as well as peripheral and neuro interventional radiology services. The Department caters to approximately 20,000 exams a month. It comprises a team of Radiologists, Research Faculty, Medical Physicists, Trained /Certified Radiographers and support staff. The Department has a structured residency programme which inducts PGME trainees every year and fellowships in Vascular Interventional Radiology, Women Imaging and Neuro-radiology. The Department also runs an on-job training programme for radiographers. The faculty of Radiology are involved in these training programmes at all levels. |
| Responsibilities | The Chair will provide dynamic leadership to the Department and will have the responsibility to conduct its academic and service mandate. He/she will report to the Dean of the Medical College with respect to academic goals and to the Dean and the CEO, AKUH, Karachi for faculty and service issues. |
| Requirements |
Candidates
must have suitable post-graduate qualifications with extensive
leadership, managerial and clinical experience in a teaching hospital.
The incumbent should have strong interpersonal skills, notable
achievements in research and teaching, as well as administrative
experience at a senior level. The appointment will be initially for
three years, renewable for a further two years subject to performance
review.

| Responsibilities | Reporting to the Dean of the Medical College, the Chair will provide dynamic leadership to the department and will have overall responsibility for the conduct of its academic and research mandate, consistent with mission and policies of AKU. S/he will foster a research culture in the department, teach, supervise and be an active participant in the graduate student mentoring/advising process, as well as focus on attraction, retention and succession planning of faculty and on procuring extramural funding. |
| Requirements |
Candidates must have a doctorate in a biological science discipline
preferably with a medical degree with substantial experience in a
university setting and a proven track record of internationally
recognized research, teaching at graduate/ post graduate level,
supervising graduate students, conducting translational research and
procuring extramural funding. S/he should have experience of academic
administration and demonstrable commitment to scholarly activity with
an understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the local
environment.
The appointment will be initially for three years, renewable for a further two years subject to performance review.
